Reassessing second language reading comprehension: Insights from the psycholinguistics notion of sentence processing

چکیده

Theories and practices in second language reading pedagogy often overlook the sentence processing description from psycholinguistics perspective. Second comprehension is easily associated with vocabulary learning or discourse strategy. Yet, such activities can lead to an unnatural way of as translating vocabularies pointing out information required. Meanwhile authentic should encourage a natural stream ideas be interpreted sentence. As suggested by notion point view, syntax appears key effective opposed general belief semantic being primary concern. This article argues that understanding architecture processing, syntactic parsing at core underlying mechanism, offer insights into pedagogy. The concepts parsing, reanalysis, models are described give idea how works. Additionally, critical review on differences between L1 L2 presented considering recent debate individual significant indicators nativelike processing. Lastly, implications for potential implementation instructional setting discussed.
